Bringing Magzter to Norway: Turning a Content Gap into a Growth Market

The Challenge

Norway wasn't an obvious pick for us. It's a small, mature market, and at the time we didn't have a deep catalog of Norwegian-language titles on Magzter, which made us unsure whether readers would sign up for a magazine service that couldn't fully speak their language.

Movion saw it differently. Keeping in mind that Norwegians are among the most English-proficient populations in the world, Movion argued that content language didn't have to be the barrier we assumed it was. On top of that, they already had strong relationships with Norway's three major carriers - Telenor, Telia and Ice - meaning we could reach practically the entire Norwegian mobile market from day one, instead of piecing coverage together carrier by carrier.

The Approach

Once we agreed to give Norway a real shot, Movion ran point on the launch for us:

  • Led the carrier approval process across Telenor, Telia and Ice
  • Handled the technical integration for billing and subscriber management
  • Built and launched the user acquisition strategy
  • Continuously tuned campaign spend based on performance data, only scaling budget where the numbers backed it up

The Results

Looking back, betting on Norway paid off, and the numbers show a market that kept building momentum.

The month-over-month growth tells the real story. In the first three months after launch, we averaged around 410 new paying users a month, a cautious, testing-the-waters start. Once Movion had enough performance data to work with, that jumped to roughly 1,550 a month over the next quarter, close to a 3.8x increase.

Over months six through twelve, the monthly average climbed to around 2,590 new users, and in the year since, it has continued to trend upward. June 2026 alone brought in 4,164 new users, our strongest month yet and roughly 17 times what we saw in our very first month.

What stands out to us most is that this wasn't a one-time spike from an aggressive launch campaign. It's a market that was built up carefully, month by month, on the back of real performance data - and it's still growing.

Testimonial

Norway has become one of our steadiest revenue markets, and it's changed how we think about expansion generally. We no longer assume that a thin local content catalog rules out a market. If the audience and the acquisition strategy are right, growth follows. We're already looking at where else that logic could apply, and we plan to keep working with Movion to build out our content offering and expand our presence to rest of the Nordic countries.
